Handmade bronze statue of Asclepius with his symbol, the serpent-entwined staff.

Asclepius was the god of medicine and healing according to the Greek mythology. He was the son of Apollo and Coronis. His mother was killed by Apollo for being unfaithful to him and the unborn child was recued from her womb.  When Asclepius was a little older, Apollo sent him to the wise centaur Cheiron where he learnt everything about healing. He became so knowledgeable that he could bring back the dead to life. Zeus believed he was going too far against the nature and killed him with a thunderbolt. Asclepius temples were everywhere in Greece, and people would sleep in them in order to get cured.
