Bronze handmade dolphin.

The name dolphin comes from the ancient Greek name “delphis”, which can be interpreted as “a fish with a womb”. Dolphins are numerous times mentioned in Greek myths as mammals helping the human being. Based on artistic evidence, dolphins where particularly important to the Minoans (a civilization which arose on the island of Crete). But dolphins were not just important to Minoans, but to the whole ancient Greece. Killing a dolphin was similar to killing a human and the punishment was death. Dolphins were considered to have divine powers and were seen messengers for the gods and especially Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea.
